AGC (AGC Inc., Headquarters: Tokyo; President: Yoshinori Hirai), a world-leading manufacturer of glass, chemicals and other high-tech materials, has announced that its group company PT Asahimas Chemical (ASC, Headquarters: Indonesia), has recently obtained ISCC PLUS Certification*, one of the international certification systems for sustainable products. This certification confirms that biomass-derived raw materials and renewable raw materials (including those derived from renewable energy) are managed sustainably throughout the entire supply chain, including the manufacturing process, in accordance with ISCC standards, and that the traceability is ensured.

This certification enables ASC to handle ISCC PLUS-certified products such as Caustic soda, Vinyl chloride monomer (VCM), and Polyvinyl chloride resin (PVC), thereby strengthening its product portfolio. Additionally, ASC will be able to provide customers who are actively promoting sustainability with products that meet international standards. The following products in the Chemicals Segment of the AGC Group have currently obtained this certification.

Certified companies and sites Representative products certified Date of certification
PT Asahimas Chemical Anyer plant (Indonesia) Caustic soda
Vinyl chloride monomer (VCM)
Polyvinyl chloride resin (PVC)
Hydrochloric acid
Sodium hypochlorite
Ethylene dichloride (EDC)
June 2025
AGC Vinythai Public Company Limited Map Ta Phut plant 1 (Thailand) Epichlorohydrin “EPINITY™” July 2023

Under its long-term management strategy “Vision 2030”, the AGC Group has set “Sustainability Management” as one of its key strategies. By providing these certified products, the Group will promote initiatives that reduce environmental impact throughout the entire value chain – from the procurement of raw materials to customer use – thereby contributing to the realization of a sustainable global environment.

Exhibiting Flat Glass Horizontal Recycling Efforts at Expo 2025 Osaka–Kansai

AGC Inc. will exhibit in the “Circular Economy Laboratory,” an interactive event organized by the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI), from Tuesday, September 23 to Monday, September 29, 2025, at the EXPO Messe indoor exhibition hall “WASSE” South Hall during Expo 2025 Osaka–Kansai. In collaboration with the science manga series “Kagaku Manga Survival,” this event provides a hands-on learning platform on the circular economy. We will highlight the “Flat Glass to Flat Glass” initiative—regenerating used flat glass into new flat glass—and showcase our advanced efforts toward horizontal recycling of flat glass.

Flat glass is inherently a material that can be recycled indefinitely through a melting process. However, the effective reuse of post-consumer flat glass remains insufficient: in Japan, wasted architectural window glass is estimated to over 500,000 tons per year. Moreover, solar panels with an expected service life of 20–30 years are projected to generate several hundred thousand tons of waste by the late 2030s. Cover glass accounts for about 60 percent of a solar panel’s total weight, raising concerns over the environmental impact of landfill disposal.

We have established a horizontal recycling scheme for window glass in collaboration with our partner companies and have successfully recycled used solar panel cover glass into float glass, which is previously considered technically challenging. This not only reduces industrial waste but also cuts the consumption of virgin raw materials and significantly lowers GHG emissions in the flat glass manufacturing process.

As part of our medium-term management plan “AGC plus-2026” and under the banner of our “Blue planet” vision, the AGC Group is committed to reducing environmental impact and promoting resource circulation, thereby accelerating our contribution to a sustainable society.

Date: Tuesday, September 23 to Monday, September 29, 2025

Location: the EXPO Messe indoor exhibition hall “WASSE” South Hall
